Does Your Dog Need Dog obedience Training?

Is Your Dog's Behavior out of Control and Undisciplined? Are You Unsure How to Apply Dog Obedience Training and Stop Them from Destroying Your House? Let Me Tell You What I Did to Solve This Problem.
Why consider dog obedience training

Hello fellow dog owners, my name is Troy, I live in Las Vegas and am a proud owner of a family dog named Layla. We have had Layla for a few years now and she is really a great dog. However that was not always the case. You see back in 2008 I had promised my daughter that if she made improvement in school and raised her grades that we would get a dog. My daughter never had a dog before and I had not had a dog since I was child. Well, you guessed it she improved her grades and we set out to find a family dog.

Now, I am a single father with two young children at home so money is an issue with everything we set out to do.

We had decided that since there was such overpopulation at the local animal shelter that we would adopt a dog rather than buy one from a pet store. We were proud that we able to rescue a dog that may have been put down and we saved money as well. We also got lucky as found what we believe to be an English Pointer. We did not realize that when we were looking at all the dogs at the animal shelter, we just knew she was adorable and my daughter instantly fell in love with her. The lady at the animal shelter suggested considering dog obedience training classes, she said it would cost about $ 75. I figured we would be fine without dog obedience training classes as I had several dogs when I was growing up. We paid the fees and took out new dog Layla home.

How I learned about dog obedience training

Well we quickly realized why it was suggested to have Layla take dog obedience training classes.

In the first week she had chewed up 2 pairs of my shoes, destroyed several of daughter's stuffed animals and ate the cables to my son's video game controllers. She also had a very sensitive stomach and many of the dog foods we tried feeding here gave her diarrhea. I was regretting ever agreeing to get a dog, my life just got even more stressful. I figured we needed to follow through with the dog obedience training classes but coming up with an extra $ 75 and driving to the other side of town every week was a bit overwhelming. Now as I mentioned I am a single father with 2 young children, a full time job and volunteer as my kids youth soccer coach. The thought of dishing out more money and driving clear across town with 2 kids, an undisciplined dog all between school, soccer practice and my daughter's girl scouts meetings was more than I felt I could handle. So, what did I do? I went online and found what I believe to be most complete dog obedience training and dog care method available. Now many dog training products exist but I would like to recommend to you the one that really worked for me. The best part was I did not have to waste my limited time to drive across town in traffic while spending more money than I can afford. I tell you all this because this product simplified my life and I only spent a totally $ 17 and completed the process in my own home. If you can relate to my story then you really need to click on the link below.

A Dog Obedience Class Can Improve Dog Behavior

Dogs are extremely likeable and enjoyable pets and this fact is recognized worldwide. They are extremely popular with families all over the world. There is something about each breed of dog that makes them heart warmers. Their cheerful disposition, zeal and warmth, and natural instincts of loyalty make them quite affable to most pet owners. Most of them treat them just like their own children and give them equal love.

However, each dog must be taught behavior lessons in the form of dog training. These are four legged creatures and hence bent towards instinctiveness. Naturally, with less rationality or intelligence, they require ample training. If you are ready to provide your pets with perfect training then they will definitely become responsible canines and earn a lot of regard from your family and friends.

A dog obedience class should be taken seriously by the pet owner.

Right at the outset, an owner must show the pet that he is the top dog between them and the show will run just as he will intend it to run. Yes, one should not be authoritative with the pet but maintain tight control of the dog obedience class.

Ideally, you should not change the training style on a dog. Consistency is most important as it helps the dogs to adjust perfectly to a dog obedience class. Dogs are creatures of habit and may not respond too well to shifting techniques of training. However, if you keep a constant method of training, they will respond very well and learn faster.

You must not go against their natural instinct. The idea is to ensure that each breed of dog is trained the trait of obedience in keeping with his natural impulse and instinct. Pets tend to learn things faster this way and also perform the lessons better in a real-world scenario. If you go against their natural impulse, they will listen to you out of fear but start harboring rebelliousness inside them. This may result in a rebel attitude later in the day.

As a pet owner, each day is a learning curve for you as well. You should try to gain as much knowledge from experts and renowned trainers as possible. The Internet can be a goldmine for imparting you with the right knowledge. You can read articles from many excellent dog training sites. These generally provide you with rare insights of those who are expert at training dogs.  As an example, you may be able to find out the pros and cons of an anti-bark collar if your dog is prone to barking too much.

Basics of Dog Training

Isn’t it nice to have a dog that you can easily order around and it will directly follow you? These kinds of dogs are one in a million, or two million. But, whatever kind of dog you have, you can have a follower of a dog if you can train it well.

Right timing. This pertains to the right age of the dog when you are going to train him. Also, this will refer to the right times of the day that you are going to train your dog and how long the trainings will be.

Usually, it is recommended that you start training your dog at ages of about five to eight weeks. But, do not get too excited and start very early and before those ages. You will only waste your time, and worse, exhaust your puppy.

If you have the time, you can train your dog every day. This can give you results in a faster rate. Also, take note of the amount of time that you will be allocating for the training.

Although it is your goal to make your dog learn as many tricks as soon as possible, you can only put in several minutes in a day for this training. This is so that you will not tire your pet.

Give treats. The most effective method used by dog trainers is with the use of dog treats whenever the dog reaches a certain milestone in your training.

Using positive reinforcement or giving rewards to dogs lets them understand that that action is rewarded because it is correct. So, they will tend to repeat that action as indicated in order to receive more rewards in the form of dog treats.

Even praising your dog is not futile. This will add more to the physical reward that you are providing it.

Consistency is key. Give commands with the same actions each and every time.

This is the only way that your dog will learn. So, you need to take note of the action that you are making when you are telling it to ‘sit’, ‘roll over’, etc.

Stay in line. This means that whenever you are training your dog, your attention should be towards your dog, 100%. This is to make sure that your dog is tuned in to what you will be ordering him to do. If you are doing something else, you will only distract your dog and it won’t know what it is supposed to do.

Be friendly. Use a tone of voice that is nonthreatening. However, it should be firm. It is just like using a voice that you use to command another person.

And make sure to keep your cool. Do not lose patience and end up hurting your dog. When you are set to train your dog by yourself, you should be ready to put in countless hours just to teach him one trick. If you are not prepared to do this, you should consider hiring a dog trainer to do this for you.

Properly Walking Your Dog

If you are looking to purchase a puppy you want to make sure that you are committed to being able to dedicate time to that puppy. The more quality time that you spend with your puppy the better adjusted and trained he or she will become.

There are a lot of misconceptions that are pretty prevalent in the dog walking world. You have to make sure that you establish yourself as the dominant figure even when you are just out walking with your dog.

A great way to do this is to start by not allowing your dog to walk in front of you. There are a lot of people out there that let their dog walk in front of them and give the dog the feeling that he or she is in control of where you are going.

When your dog is walking in front of you it will feel that it is in charge. The leader always goes first and you want to make sure that your dog understands that you are the leader when you are out walking around the neighborhood.

If you allow your dog to lead you on the walk you will also be giving him or her more mental strain. When they are in front they have the responsibility of leading the pack and taking care of you throughout the walk.

If you go out on a walk with a dog because he or she is very high strung, but then you allow them to lead the pack, you will not be diminishing the mental strain. When you get back from your walk it is highly probably that he or she will be just as high stung.

You need to be giving your dog the proper type of exercise to allow their body to relax and get in a good amount of exercise. When your puppy begins to have pent up energy you may notice that he or she gets into a lot more trouble at home.

Making your dog heel is not the most important part of the walk. Even if your dog is next to you he or she needs to understand that you are in control of your walk and that you are going to call all of the shots while you are out walking.

Rewarding your dog throughout the walk is a great way to encourage positive behaviors. If you are only punishing the dog he or she may not know what you are expecting and can get frustrated and even confused.

If you want to introduce your dog to new dogs a pack walk is a great way to get this accomplished. Even if you know that your dog has had problems with another dog before you may want to try reintroducing them on a group walk.

It is important while you are on this walk to take the time to correct any poor behavior problems as soon as they occur. Finding a good balance of negative and positive reinforcement will help you get the dogs into order.

Keeping all of the dogs with you and heeling is important throughout the walk. If you allow a group of dogs or even just a single dog to pull in front of you he or she will begin to feel as if he or she has established dominance.

It is important that you keep the dogs under control throughout the walk. Never bite off more than you can chew by taking too many dogs out for a walk at once when you are not equipped to deal with all of them.

If you are going to be walking a lot of dogs you may need a second walker to be out with you. This may also depend on the sizes of the dogs that you are bringing together in a group to take out for a walk.

Some people do not have time to be taking their dog out for a walk as often as the dogs need it. You have to make sure that your dog is getting exercise somehow, even if you are not the one walking your dog.

When you are not going to be able to walk your dog you should hire a walking agency to come pick up your dog. They should be well equipped to handle your dog and instill good walking habits in your dog.

Taking the time to invest in a good dog walker can dramatically decrease the stress level you associate with having a new puppy.

Do Over Dogs: Give Your Dog a Second Chance for a First Class Life (Dogwise Training Manual)

What exactly is a Do-Over Dog? It might be a shelter dog you’re working with to help her become more adoptable. Perhaps it’s the dog you’ve adopted, rescued, or even found running stray who is now yours to live with and love…forever. Or it could be the dog you’ve lived with for years but you realize he still has “issues” that make him a challenging canine companion. A Do-Over Dog is any dog that you think needs—make that deserves—a second chance in life.

Do Over Dogs: Give Your Dog a Second Chance for a First Class Life (Dogwise Training Manual)

Show Dog Training

Many people will train their dog for various sporting events such as Frisbee catching or obstacle races, then there are some that get into the show dog training aspect of it all. This is where your dog will be showcased as a class breed according to the AKC or CKC, and they will be judged for their appearance and demeanor. This is something that is extremely popular, and you will find some of the best dogs in the world are being trained to partake in such events around the world. This is a wonderful way for your dog to show their stuff, and you never know you could actually see your dog with the ribbon one day.

Composure

One of the most important aspects of the show dog training is composure. This is the demeanor that the dog is going to carry in the ring, when they are being viewed by the judge and the audience alike. When they are being checked over, they are expected to stay calm and collected.

They will have their eyes and ears looked over, and the judge will look over the dog's teeth. This is when the dog must behave the most, as it would be an immediate fail if the dog reacted poorly to the judge handling them in this manner. If the dog cannot be trained to keep their composure, they will not be permitted to enter any one the contests that they are training for.

Following Commands

Show dog training means that the dog is going to have to pay close attention to the commands that are given when they are given. If the dog should fail to follow a command by either the handler or the judge, they will not be able to proceed in the event. The commands will be simple and direct, and if the dog is to go anywhere within the show circuit they are going to need to excel at this aspect.

There is no room for error in this field, and your dog should be trained to understand this idea. The judge in this type of event has no patience for a dog that is unruly, so this is something that trainers pay particularly close attention too. This will ensure that the dog will not fall behind the pack, due to a misunderstanding. The dog will be trained to succeed, so they must now prove what they have learned.

Walking, Trotting, And Standing Tall

Show dog training will incorporate a few very basic yet critical practices when they are in their program. This means that sitting, standing, and any form of walking or trotting, will be done so with great pride and integrity. All of these actions will be used quite frequently when in a show, so it is vital for these to be worked on diligently with the trainers. There are very few trainers that will forego this type of training for something else early on, so you can expect that the dog will get a full schedule of it.

Protecting Yourself From Dangerous Dogs While Walking Or Jogging

If you enjoy running, jogging, or walking outdoors, you are taking great strides to keep yourself healthy and in shape. If you are warmed up and properly stretched, you do not have to worry about injury.

However, that does not mean you are completely out of danger. Dogs can be very dangerous to joggers, if they are untrained, feeling threatened, or just mean.

Although you might think that it can never happen to you, there have been many instances in which people have been attacked, even fatally, by dogs. The dog may be one that you have never seen before or it may be one which you are familiar with.

No matter what the case is, there are several things that you should do in order to protect yourself during a dog attack. First of all, never run in the opposite direction if you feel threatened or afraid-they will always catch you.

If an aggressive dog were to approach you, there is a good chance that you might think that the most sensible thing that you can do is run from it. Even though the idea may sound like a good one, this does not mean that it is the right one.

You may as well be waving a red flag in front of an angry bull. No matter how much you may want to escape from a dog you feel may attack you, the best thing that you can do is just stand still and avoid running or making any quick or sudden movements.

Depending on the situation and the animal, making eye contact will only worsen the situation. When you stand still, there is a good chance that they will back off and leave you alone.

However, they may think that you are trying to be aggressive with them by staring directly into their eyes. This will only cause the animal to become infuriated, if he or she is not already.

If you feel threatened by an animal, the best thing you can do is to turn and walk away slowly, pretending like you cannot even see the animal. In most cases, they will back away, feeling that you are neutral.

However, if the canine decides to charge and attack, the most important thing you can do is to protect your face and head. Some of the worst injuries have resulted from humans being bitten in the face.

It is especially important to keep a dog away from your mouth and eyes. Stand up tall, pull your shirt up over your head or put your hands on your face to protect it from being bitten.

There is no doubt that dogs can sense fear. If your actions display any type of fear or discomfort, you can bet that they are going to pick up on it.

In order to prevent any beast from bullying you during a time when you are afraid of being attacked, the best thing that you can do is remain calm. Remember to always be alert when you are out running or walking.

While it is important to avoiding looking the animal directly in the eyes, it is also important for you to remain alert. You should know where they are at all times, in order to prevent yourself from being attacked without even realizing it.

From the moment that an angry or aggressive beast approaches you, it is important for you to be completely aware of your surroundings, their actions, and your own actions. You can never be too careful.

These are just some of the many things that can help protect you during an attack. You should never put yourself in a situation where you may become a victim.

If there are people around, you should yell for help when (but not until) the beast begins to attack. When you already know that there is an aggressive canine on the loose in your neighborhood, it is a good idea to consider carrying pepper spray.

If you are bit, it is important to seek the care of a medical professional immediately, in order to prevent an infection from occurring. If you have been the victim of an attack, make sure that you seek legal help immediately-you may have a case if the animal was not properly restrained.

Guaranteed Dog Training Methods

If you want to effectively train your dog, you must remember that dogs have personalities as well. This means that each dog is different. This is why dogs like and do things that seem un-dog like. For example, my friend's dog likes bananas. It's not like he was starving his dog or something. The dog just liked bananas. My point is that the techniques that we share with you will work differently with each dog because every dog has a different personality. So here are some of the pet care and training techniques you will learn.

Effective Dog Training

Your dog's world is one of smells and action. They do not understand language like we do. So when you start training your puppy or dog, he may not respond to your command or praise.

If this is the case, then you need to start using physical praise along with verbal praise for a few months. The physical praise can be in the form of a treat or petting. When your dog starts associating sounds like "Good Girl" or "Good Dog" with the treat, he will learn to recognize it later. After a while, you will notice that he responds to your voice.

Dog Training Using Praise

Your dog loves Praise and Attention. As odd as it may sound, dogs will do anything to get their master's love and attention. Let me give you an example. A friend once came to me complaining about his mischievous dog. His dog would grab things like shoes and hats then run away with them. He would chew up slippers and shoes even though my friend bought him a variety of toys and treats.

His dog would still be a nuisance.

What my friend did not realized is that the dog was trying to get his attention. He never praised his dog when he was doing the things he wanted him to do, such as playing with his toys. Therefore, the dog did things that caused my friend to yell and shout. Always remember to praise your dog for things that you want him to do and ignore him when he does the opposite.

Dog Training Using Toys

You don't need to spend a small fortune buying toys for your dog. You can practically use anything as a toy. For example, you could use a small plastic bottle, an empty baby powder box, or a cardboard roll from toilet paper. Then categorize the toys into groups.

Category one toys are the ones he likes. Category two toys are the ones he loses interest in quickly. Category one toys are to be used in your dog training methods. Note: Interactive toys are the ones that require you to play with your dog. However, the isolation ones are those that he plays with by himself.

The toys should be put away after play is over and not left lying around. The toys lose their value if they are left lying around. Remember: Never pull a toy from your dog's  mouth. Let him take his time, chew it, and  leave it.

Dog Training In Public Places

During your dog training sessions, your dog9 may exhibit fear or aggression when meeting strangers. You should discourage such behavior. Stop him by saying a firm "No"  and pat or praise him when he stops. If your dog displays fear, be a little gentler with the "No," but be firm. With a growling dog, be much more emphatic and stern with your "No!" However, always show love and affection when dog training.

The Dog Listener: Learn How to Communicate with Your Dog for Willing Cooperation

Dog Obedience Training Exercise

Dog obedience training is one of the most important areas of every dog's development. Training your puppy during their early stage of development can assure you that you would have a well-trained dog when he grows up. But the question is - when do is the best time to train your dog?

There is no exact answer to this question. Dog obedience training is an ongoing and continuous process. It would be best to start training your dog when they're still a puppy.

Once you train your dog to obey your commands, you bond even better as you open out a line for communicating effectively. You should be able to train your dog to understand simple commands like "sit, "heel", "come", "stay" and down". The dog should be trained to comply with the commands given by its owner.

Here some Dog Obedience Training Exercise:

1. Sit
The dog must always sit at your left side with his shoulder at your left knee.

He must be facing the same direction as you, with about 4 inches between you. To train your dog to sit, first fold the leash in right hand. Give the dog's name and command 'sit'. At the same time, push down on his hindquarters with your left hand and jerk up on the leash with your hand. When he is in correct position. Praise him with a pat vocal praise.

2. Heeling on leash
The dog should walk with right shoulder about even with your left knee. With a loose leash, call the dog's name and give the command "heel". Immediately walk forward and give a hard jerk on the leash. If the first jerk does not make an impression, make the second harder. Never drag your dog. When you have jerked him into position at your left knee and the collar is loose, praise him with "good dog".

Your dog will never learn with tight leash. Always follow a correction with praise. When you stop walking make your dog immediately sit and sit straight. Correct any crooked sits immediately, using your right hand on the hindquarters. Make sure the dog remains sitting until you are ready to start up again. Never allow him to stan up lie down, he must sit.

3. About Turn
Always turn away from your dog to your right to reverse your direction. Keep your eye on your dog consultantly and as you go into your turn, give several short, quick jerks.

4. Sit Stay
Have your dog in the sit position with the palm of the bump him on the nose and give the command "stay". Drop your leash in front of the dog. Turn facing him, and stand close to him on the leash. Remain there for a few seconds, pick up the leash and return by walking around behind him, and into heel position. Do not drag the leash across your dog. Your dog must not move until you release him. Correct him before he moves. Gradually increase the time your dog stays. Increase the distance between you and your dog until you can safely remove his leash.

5. Down
With the dog sitting, give the command "down" then push down on his shoulders, at the same time wobbling him off balance. A second method is to place the leash between the sole and the heel of your shoe. Give the command "down", and then pull up on the leash. Sometimes it is necessary to pull his legs forward until he goes down.

6. Down stay
After your dog is in the down position, give the command "stay", both orally and by signal, and drop the leash in front of him. Stand on the leash close to facing him. Remain there again for a few seconds and returns to him in the same manner as in the sit-stay. Again he must not move out of position. Gradually increase the time your dog stays. Increase the distance between you and your dog until you can safely remove his leash.

3 Important Dog Training Advice

Dogs have different qualities and traits with their own unique personalities. Some may be aggressive, timid, silly and playful, domineering or fearful and skittish. This dog training advice will help to modify and balance the behaviors of your pet.

In other words, no matter what your dog's personality is, you will be able to train them to the best of your abilities.

Training

Training a dog to become obedient to your voice or instruction will help to keep your pet in the proper and disciplined behavior. Practicing the dog training advice for your dog will teach you how to train your pet when barking, biting, overly aggressive, fearful or just being too authoritative.

Dogs have a keen sense and can pick up or sense what a person is feeling, and it will affect them. So, being mindful of this will help when bonding and training him or her.

When practicing these dog training advice with your dog, it is very important for you to have a firm and self-assured attitude with him or her.

Walking

When you take him or her for a walk, a leash is necessary. Not every dog takes to wearing a leash right away and will have to adapt to the whole idea of it. When walking your dog, you need to keep him or her by your side and not allow him or her to sneak up to the front. Hold the leash tight enough, so the dog cannot move away but stays on the right path with you.

Walking the dog can be a great way to get exercise for both you and your dog. But remember, you must be the one to let your dog know you are the one with the rules, not him or her. Make him or her follow what you want to do and not the other way around.

Aggressive Behaviors

Some dogs are easily annoyed and become aggressive, which can be frustrating by itself.

Dog training helps you to learn how to take immediate charge and not allow the dog to act out in and with aggression. You will be training the dog to become humble and obedient to you and what you say. Just tell your dog no and give a slight tap, if needed.

Dog training empire will help to prevent all sorts of behavior problems with your dog. Stay with it and be consistent, as you prove to the dog with a strong and firm discipline you are the boss and he or she must adhere to your rules.

I decided to choose a task that my mother would complete at her job in the elementary school office in Bremen. She is a secretary and gathers bunch of information together in order to help the school run smoothly. Without her answering phones, typing up newsletters, dealing with upset parents, and so much more, the school would not be able to run smoothly; which, in turn, affects the education that the children are getting in that particular public school. Secretaries are important in every school around the United States. They make the issues and events in the school flow as smooth as possible. I decided to choose to film my mother's occupation because I think it is amazing what she does. The simplest things are ten times more difficult in her job because of all of the distractions around her. I decided to film her doing what seems to be a simple task; filling in a simple, fill-in-the-blank newsletter for parents of the elementary and middle school students. When I did my observation, I sat the camera on a desk beside my mother. We were in the elementary office at the front of the school where her and another secretary answer the phones and do other tasks. I did not come across any problems during the filming of this project. I found it very easy to film her actions. I just sat the camera down so I would have a stable surface so the camera wouldn't shake. I also filmed early in the morning; at the beginning of the school day. How to train your dog not to pull- Loose Leash Walking

In other words- walking on a loose leash. This video quickly outines exercises to get your dog walking on a loose leash by your side. Put very basically FIRST you will teach the dog what you want them to do! And secondly, stop reinforcing them when they pull! I demonstrate the exercise using a clicker, but if you do not have one, you can always use a verbal marker like yes etc. However you will get much faster and reliable results by using the clicker. If you hold the clicker in the same hand as the leash, and keep the treats in the other hand, you will find it easier to manage. Practice holding the leash, clicker, and treats when you do not have the dog attached to the leash yet, so you dont become overwhelmed. A great book on loose leash walking, or how to stop your dog from pulling is- My Dog Pulls. What Do I Do? by Turid Rugaas You can get this book on www.dogwise.com and other places too. Its very short and has lots of pictures. I would advise against using any forms of positive punishment when teaching any behavior, but especially leash walking, as startling or hurting a dog actually increases their stress hormones in their body causing the dog to be more hyperactive and more likely to become aroused and reactive towards other dogs and people (weather they want to greet them or not). DO NOT DROP THE LEASH! I showed myself dropping the leash on a street with no cars/danger and another person there. This would happen during an emergency, if you trip or fumble. In no ...

These will include a booking form, veterinary release form, telephone reservation sheet, customer invoice, dog or cat information sheet, dog walking report card, medication log, service agreement, pet accident & illness card.

2. Do get Pet Sitters Insurance, we are very lucky in the UK that you can get pet sitting insurance from just 6.00 per month depending on what service you offer. It is essential to have pet sitters insurance in place to cover unforeseen events.

3. Do get a Pet Sitters CRB check, if you offer a dog walking service, pet sitting in the pets home or a pop in service and you hold keys you will need to have a CRB check done to show customers that you do not have a criminal record.

4. Do have a paperwork storage system, ideally a Pet Sitters Database, storing your clients and pets information is a must as it is very likely that they will come back to you time and time again so a good filing system is essential, they should contain information like vet details, medication and notes on the pets behaviour, service required, booking dates, cost, etc . There is pet sitters software available in the NarpsUK members area that will store all of this information and all your bookings too making running your business very easy for you.

5. Do write up a Pet Sitters Business Plan, A business plan is a document that sums up your business - its aims, strategies, market and financial forecasts. You should make sure its short, clear and well presented, and review it regularly as your business progresses. A great pet sitting business plan is available NarpsUK which also shows calculated financial projections and breakeven etc.

6. Do run a Marketing Campaign, having a good flyer is key to bringing in new customers, these should be distributed to local veterinarian surgeries, pet shops and grooming parlours. Having a website and google ad words campaign is a great idea and shows professionalism. Some recognised membership organisations offer pet owners a post code search facility that retrieves the member pet sitters details this will also bring you in more work.

The trainer will coach your dog on how to properly behave when you are out for a walk and when you are asking him to do something. The trainer is also able to train your dog on how to react in complicated circumstances.

And if your dog finds it hard to behave well in a group environment, or if it seems aggressive or out of control, the easy way to train it is to get a specialist in dog behavior or an expert dog whisperer. This is a very humane approach that will help correct the dog's behavior.

It will also facilitate the way you communicate with your dog. The moment your dog becomes interested in interacting with you, that's an indication that you can now start training him. But mind you, you will go a long way if you use these tips in your dog training.

Dasher was a poised six year old black and brown neutered male German Shepherd who was discarded at the Downey Animal Care Center on July 10th because his former owner had health issues. Weighing ninety pounds, this attentive dog walked okay on leash, sat on command and was probably housebroken. A gentle giant, he got along with well-behaved dogs and we believe he would have done well with older children. Dasher would have been a terrific walking companion and the perfect indoor pet for an individual or family with older children living in a private home.but sadly no one cared and on August 9th he was taken to the back of the shelter and given a lethal injection of sedatives. His body was placed in a barrel of dead dogs, inside a freezer. His carcass now awaits shipment to a rendering plant where it will be boiled down and the fat drained to produce lipstick and other cosmetics..

TEACHING THE DOG TO THINK is Kimberly Davis’ engaging memoir about her crash introduction to the sport of dog agility—with its jumps, tunnels, balance beams and weave poles. An award-winning poet and blogger, Davis vividly describes her frustrations trying to get her dog to “mind.” We then watch as her first steely-eyed agility coach shames her into giving up choke collars and scruff shakes in favor of the “positive” training methods used by agility instructors. Also how they transform her unruly yearling collie, Willow, into a loyal, hardworking teammate. Davis ultimately carries the lessons she has mastered in dog training class into other areas of her life, particularly into parenting and teaching creative writing. In the end, this memoir becomes a soul-searching exploration of how to get others to do what we want without bullying or cruelt
